Dermaplaning
The beauty of a smooth canvas.
A little surface refinement can change the way your skin feels and the way makeup sits. Dermaplaning uses a precise blade technique to remove fine facial hair and superficial dead skin cells. At RELAX in Doylestown, it can be booked as a facial or discussed as an add-on to a compatible treatment, with the method and finishing care chosen around your skin’s condition.

Refinement you can feel.
A finish that stays natural.
Dermaplaning is a surface treatment. Its appeal is straightforward: less peach fuzz, a smoother feel and a more even canvas for skincare and makeup once the skin is ready. It does not involve the same mechanism as microneedling, and it is not intended to replace assessment for deep scars or significant skin laxity.
The technique is also different from simply using a facial razor at home. A professional appointment includes a skin assessment, preparation, controlled technique and guidance about when your skin should be left alone. Knowing when not to exfoliate is part of good dermaplaning care.
Four details that make the difference.
Fine facial hair
Vellus hair is the soft, fine hair often called peach fuzz. Dermaplaning removes it temporarily at the surface. Coarser hair or a new change in facial hair growth may need a different conversation.
Surface cells
The blade also removes superficial accumulated cells. This can create a smoother-feeling surface, but repeated or overly aggressive exfoliation can leave skin irritated rather than more radiant.
Controlled technique
The provider works with facial contours and avoids unsuitable areas. Treatment should be adjusted to the condition of your skin rather than pursued over inflamed breakouts, open areas or fresh irritation.
Finishing care
The facial option allows time for a broader skincare experience, while the add-on is a shorter step within another suitable appointment. Ask what finishing products are included in the option you choose.
A simple treatment.
A thoughtfully polished finish.
Dermaplaning’s goals are cosmetic and surface-focused. Results are temporary, and suitability depends on the skin being treated.
A smoother feel
Removing fine hair and superficial buildup can make the surface feel more even. It is a tactile change many clients seek when skin feels rough or makeup catches on dry areas.
Peach-fuzz removal
Fine facial hair is removed without a permanent change to the follicle. Regrowth is expected, and appointment timing can be discussed around your preferences and skin tolerance.
A fresher appearance
A newly refined surface may look brighter. Persistent dark patches or unexplained changes in skin color should still be assessed separately rather than treated as ordinary dullness.
Makeup that sits more evenly
Once the skin is ready, foundation may glide across a smoother canvas. Your provider can advise how long to wait before applying makeup after your appointment.
A flexible facial option
Choose the complete facial when you want a fuller appointment or ask about the add-on when another suitable service is already planned. The options have different durations and prices.
A more intentional routine
Your provider can help identify when exfoliation is useful and when your skin needs a break. The goal is a comfortable routine rather than constant removal of the outer surface.
What happens during your visit.
Dermaplaning is a precision service. The exact facial sequence depends on whether you book the full appointment or a compatible add-on.
Discuss your goals
Tell the provider whether your priority is fine hair, surface texture or makeup preparation. Mention previous reactions to shaving, waxing, peels or active skincare.
Assess the surface
The provider examines the skin for inflamed acne, irritation, open areas and other reasons to adjust or postpone treatment. The face does not have to be treated uniformly if one zone needs rest.
Cleanse and prepare
The skin is prepared for the selected technique. Your provider explains what the blade step feels like and how to communicate if an area becomes uncomfortable.
Refine in controlled strokes
The blade is guided across suitable areas to remove fine hair and superficial cells. The technique follows the contours of the face without treating sensitivity as something to push through.
Complete your facial
For the full facial, appropriate finishing skincare is selected. For an add-on, the provider coordinates the step with the rest of your appointment.
Review aftercare
Discuss makeup, sun protection and when to restart exfoliating products. Ask whether your normal retinoid, acid or facial tool should be paused temporarily.
Choose your interval
Wait for your skin to settle and review the result before planning another visit. Your tolerance and hair regrowth are more useful guides than a rigid schedule.
The most refined finish begins with
a gentle, precise touch.
The RELAX approach
For fine facial hair and
surface-focused concerns.
Dermaplaning may suit someone looking for temporary peach-fuzz removal and a smoother facial surface. It can be an appealing option when the goal is refinement rather than a treatment involving needles or energy.
Active inflammatory acne, sunburn, open skin, a rash or recent aggressive exfoliation can make the service inappropriate. Tell the provider about any sensitivity, medicines affecting the skin and a history of unusual scarring or pigment changes.
- Peach fuzz
- Superficial roughness
- Makeup catching on texture
- A dull-looking surface
- A complete facial ritual
- A compatible facial add-on
Care that continues beyond your appointment.
Before your visit
Share your current products and any recent shaving, waxing, laser or peel appointments. Ask what to pause before the visit, especially if you use a prescription retinoid or strong exfoliating acids.
Avoid arriving with freshly irritated or sunburned skin. If your goal is preparation for an event, leave enough time to learn how your skin responds, particularly for a first treatment.
After your visit
Keep care gentle and use the recommended moisturizer and sun protection. Avoid rubbing, scrubbing or repeating a hair-removal step while the skin feels sensitive. Ask when makeup and your usual active products can be restarted.
Temporary redness or irritation can occur. Contact the clinic if discomfort persists or worsens, or if you notice signs of infection. Do not treat a sensitive patch by applying additional exfoliation.
Full facial or add-on?
Book the time your skin needs.
The 60-minute Dermaplaning Facial is $135. The 15-minute Dermaplaning Add-On is $75 and is intended to accompany an eligible appointment. The shorter add-on should not be mistaken for the complete facial experience.
Oxygen Glow with Dermaplaning is a separate combined service in the RELAX menu. If you are deciding between them, explain whether your main goal is fine hair removal, a hydrating facial experience or a broader treatment plan. We can help clarify the appointment before you book.
A clear plan. Transparent pricing.
| Treatment | Price |
|---|---|
| Dermaplaning Facial — 60 minutes | $135 |
| Dermaplaning Add-On — 15 minutes | $75 |
The add-on requires a compatible appointment. Oxygen Glow with Dermaplaning is a separately listed facial.
Your thoughtful questions, answered.
Will the hair grow back darker or thicker?
Dermaplaning removes hair at the surface and does not change the follicle. Hair regrowth is expected. If you notice a new pattern of coarse facial hair, that is a separate issue to discuss with a qualified healthcare professional.
Is dermaplaning the same as microdermabrasion?
No. Both are surface-focused exfoliating treatments, but they use different tools and techniques. Dermaplaning also removes fine facial hair. Your provider can compare them based on your skin condition, sensitivity and the particular result you want.
Can it remove deep acne scars?
It should not be chosen with the expectation of correcting deep or raised scars. Those concerns need an assessment of scar type and treatment options. Dermaplaning is most straightforwardly understood as surface refinement and temporary fine-hair removal.
Does the blade make cuts in my face?
The intended technique is controlled surface exfoliation, not deliberate wounding. Nevertheless, nicks, irritation, infection and pigment changes are possible risks. A trained provider and an appropriate skin assessment help inform whether treatment is suitable.
Can I have it with active breakouts?
Inflamed breakouts and damaged skin may need to be avoided or may warrant postponing the appointment. Dermaplaning is not a treatment for active acne. Tell the provider about your current breakout pattern and any acne medicines you use.
How soon can I wear makeup?
Ask your provider for guidance based on your skin’s response. Do not apply makeup over skin that is irritated or uncomfortable simply because an event is approaching. A first appointment should leave room for the surface to settle.
Can I book only the $75 option?
The $75 listing is a 15-minute add-on, not the full facial. Ask which appointments it can accompany and reserve the appropriate service duration. The separate 60-minute Dermaplaning Facial is $135.
How often should dermaplaning be repeated?
Your provider can suggest an interval based on regrowth, tolerance and other skincare treatments. Skin should recover fully between appointments. Repeating exfoliation too often can cause irritation even if the previous visit felt gentle.
